Campuses
The university comprises six campi, five of which cover a region of 396 municipalities that compose the Great Mercosur Border Mesoregion, a territory of 120.763 km² that extends throughout the three Brazilian southern states, along the border with Argentina.
STATE OF SANTA CATARINA
- Campus Chapecó
With a population of about 200,000 inhabitants, Chapecó is the largest city in the west of Santa Catarina. Located about 150 Km from the Argentina border, it is served by an airport with several direct flights to Florianópolis (SC), as well as to the international airports of São Paulo (SP), and Porto Alegre (RS).
Campus Chapecó is the largest UFFS campus where the Head Office of the university is located. It offers 13 graduation courses, 5 master courses, and 13 pos-graduation courses (7 medical residency and 6 specialization courses).
STATE OF PARANÁ
- Campus Laranjeiras do Sul
Located in Laranjeiras do Sul, Paraná, this campus covers the 20 municipalities that compose the Cantuquiriguaçu Citizenship Territory, characterized by the low Human Development Index and great social differences. The campus is surrounded by agrarian reform settlements and next to Indian territories which shelter different ethnic groups. Attending to the demands of local grassroot movements, the installation of a UFFS campus in this territory was part of the strategy to promote regional development and empower the peasants and indigenous people to fight for their rights. It offers 7 graduation courses, 2 master courses and 4 specialization courses.
- Campus Realeza
Funded in the fifties of the past century, Realeza is a small town, with about 17000 inhabitants, in the south-west of Paraná. The municipality includes a large environmental Protected Area. Concerned with education, food safety and animal health, campus Realeza offers 4 teachers education courses, 1 graduation course on nutrition, as well as 1 graduation and 1 master veterinary medicine courses. It also offers 5 specialization courses. The campus boasts a well-equipped University Veterinary Hospitalar Unit and a Nutrition Clinic that attend the surrounding communities.
STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL
- Campus Erechim
Erechim is a planned medium city, with about 100.000 inhabitants, located on the Northwest of Rio Grande do Sul. It was founded in 1908, by European immigrants. Nowadays the industry is the main economic activity but the city is still surrounded by small and medium farms.
Campus Erechim offers 11 graduation courses, 3 master courses, and 6 specialization courses.
- Campus Passo Fundo
Founded in 1827, Passo Fundo is the biggest city in the North of Rio Grande do Sul, with nearly 200000 inhabitants. Considered a healthcare cluster, the city boasts nine hospitals and one of the biggest radiology and radiotherapy centres in the Souther Region of Brasil. In this context, Campus Passo Fundo is specialized in medicine, offering one graduation course and 31 medical residencies.
- Campus Cerro Largo
Cerro Largo is a small city, with about 13000 inhabitants, located in the historical Region of Missions. The settlement started in 1902, as a colony of German immigrants and grew up to became a city in 1955. The area is characterized by the abundant flora, beautiful landscapes and hospitable people that still preserves traces of the German culture. The focus of Campus Cerro Largo is teachers education and rural development, offering 07 graduation courses, two master courses and 07 specialization courses.
